With new reasons to upgrade your cellphone every three months, it might be important to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to new tech for your mobile. This way you can plan out how you will upgrade.
If you can see the advances three moves ahead, you may only need to get a new phone every nine to 12 months if you know what’s coming and can decide exactly what new gizmo you can wait patiently for and which ones you will “need” long before they are unveiled.
I’m sure everybody saw the resurrection of Tupac Shakur recently, when he appeared on stage as a holographic image more than a decade after his death. That is what I will wait for as my next cellphone. It will be holographic.
Sure, the image of Tupac was a pre-rendered video holograph, but really it’s only a matter of time, probably a matter of months in today’s world before that technology is inserted into the little gadget in your purse.
Skype is boring, two-dimensional video, but soon we will be communicating over long distances the same way they did in Star Wars. You will lay your phone down flat on your palm and projected above it, two feet from your face, will be your three-dimensional caller.
If you’re making supper, set your phone down on your kitchen table and chat away with your 12-inch, transparent mother as you chop carrots. Whether the carrots will appear in her image of you is something the engineers can figure out.
Maybe that won’t be the next new jump in cellphone technology, but it isn’t far out. Some movies of the 1980’s show a future that is now our present, and while many of the ideas put forward are a little different than what we actually see today, it’s not too hard to realize that they had some idea of what the future or present was going to look like. So go back and watch some terrible sci-fi movies from the ‘80s if you really want to see what’s coming next.
It’s hard to imagine the future of cellphones. For one, it’s an industry that’s expanding so quickly and coming out with technology I can’t even fathom.
But I’ve got a couple of ideas that would be great for future cellphones. Some of them aren’t that original, but they’re still awesome.
Retina recognition would be great. It would be easier than having to type a password every time you want to open your phone, and it’s not like someone can learn your eyes. Having retina recognition would be convenient when you leave your phone at the table with a group of friends. They wouldn’t be able to enter your phone and text your friends/crush/significant other inappropriate things about what you two will name your future children. Seriously, it would be great for everyone involved.
Another piece of technology that I’m looking forward to is the holographic display and keyboard. It would be awesome to be able to set my phone down on a table and type like I’m using a normal keyboard. I’m better at typing on a keyboard, and that would basically get rid of the need for autocorrect, which makes so many people sound like fools. The holographic display wouldn’t be great for me personally, since I mostly use my phone for social media, but for those who game, that display would be incredible.
The best technology, however, is quite possibly the simplest: waterproof cellphones that are still awesome. I’d seriously love to be able to take my iPhone under water to use the camera, or be able to accidentally drop the phone in the sink, the tub, the lake, and be able to fish it out and resume texting without a problem. A phone that was awesome and waterproof would be better than a phone that can project its screen and take a print of an eye.
