In the 2012-13 Budget the provincial government renewed a commitment of $4.3 million for the First Nations and Métis Achievement Fund and Individual Achievement accounts. These programs provide funding to school divisions and community based organizations for initiatives related to improving educational outcomes for First Nations and Métis students across the province.

“The initiatives supported by the First Nations and Métis Achievement Fund include actions to improve success in reading, science and mathematics, as well as staffing resources to support student, parent and community engagement in First Nations and Métis student learning success,” Education Minister Donna Harpauer said. “We encourage school divisions and community based organizations to apply for these funds for programs that suit their students’ unique local needs.”

This is the second year support will be available through the First Nations and Métis Achievement Fund. The First Nations and Métis Education Achievement Fund provides resources to school divisions and community based organizations to implement specific initiatives aimed at improving achievement and increasing high school completion rates. Initiatives that have received funding include the hiring of mathematics and literacy interventionists, Elders’ consultations on establishing a First Languages framework, and the hiring of Treaty Catalyst Teachers to support treaty education in schools.
