On March 7, 2009, the Sturgis RCMP were called to a residence in the small community of Usherville in relation to the suspicious death of a local 50-year-old female resident. From the initial examination of the scene it was believed that the victim had died the day before.
Gwenda Gregory was found in her home and after the preliminary investigation and an autopsy was completed, it was determined that her death was a homicide. The Major Crimes Unit South, Yorkton Forensic Identification Section, RCMP Yorkton General Investigation Section, and the Saskatchewan Coroners Office were all involved in the investigation.
On June 8, 2012, an arrest in this three-year investigation was made. Charged is 46-year-old Jaycee Mildenberger of Usherville, SK with the first-degree murder of Gwenda Gregory. Mr. Mildenberger was scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 11, 2012 at the Provincial Court in Regina.
Museum break-in
On June 6, 2012, members of the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a break and enter at the Sturgis Museum. This occurred the night of June 5. Several artifacts were removed from the museum. All of the artifacts were recovered in the area surrounding the museum.
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP along with the Yorkton Forensic Identification Section are currently investigating this break and enter. Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers or the Canora/Sturgis RCMP.
Prescription pill bust
On June 1 at approximately 8:30 pm, members of Kamsack RCMP performed a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 8 just north of Kamsack. Further investigation lead to the recovery of a large number of prescription pills from the vehicle.
As a result, a 22-year-old female resident of Kamsack is facing a number of charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking both a Schedule I and Schedule IV Drug under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused has also been charged with driving while disqualified and breach of probation.
The accused was remanded in custody and appeared in Provincial Court in Kamsack on Tuesday, June 5. Kamsack RCMP encourage anyone with information concerning illegal drug activity to contact the Kamsack Detachment of the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
