Yorkton Mosquito AA baseball action.

The Yorkton Cardinals Mosquito AA baseball team was among the three local clubs that attended their year end tournament at Melville over the weekend.

They started off the weekend with a win against the Muenstar Red Sox on Friday.

“Great pitching from Kaeden Koroluk,Cole Frankfurt,Brady Bjornerud and Reid Pfeifer shut down the Red Sox. Key hits from Jett Stechyshyn,Tony Roebuck,Kaleb Weinheimer helped with the win,” offers coach Shawn Frankfurt.

The second game did not go quite so well for the Cardinals in the battle of the birds.

Playing against the Saskatoon Blue Jays, it turned out to be a heartbreaker, says Frankfurt.

“They got up early against the Saskatoon Blue Jays and led into the fourth,” explains the coach. “(But) the Jays rallied to get the lead in the bottom of the fourth and the game was called in the fifth due to time restraints ending with the loss for the Cards.”

Cauy Clark went an impressive 4 for 4 at the plate that game.

Saturday’s action brought along a date with the Humboldt Dodgers, says Frankfurt

“Saturday morning started off great with Zac McIntyre pitching a great game against the Humboldt Dodgers.”

Again the Cards built up an early lead 6-2. Tanner Hoffman, Hazzard Friske and Dreyden Chyz had big hits to get rallies going early.

The Dodgers came back in the top of the 6th take the lead 8-6. The Cards tried to battle back but came up short 8-7 to lose a second heart breaker.

The last game saw Yorkton in tough against the Wawota team who had hot bats right off the start, handing the Cards their third loss.

Their overall record set them up for a ‘B’ final encounter to be played out on Sunday.

Yorkton catcher Dylan Stark played the whole weekend behind the plate and probably needed Sunday off to rest his tired legs, suggests Frankfurt.

A short season for the AA Mosquito Cards but they played some very impressive ball against much more seasoned teams and could have easily ended up 3-1 instead of 1-3.
