A 'Breeding for Profit Bus Tour' was held in June touring several Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan ranches and industry facilities. Stops included the Lacombe Meat Research Lab, the Round Rock Ranching at Vermilion AB., a fifth generation family owned and operated cattle ranch which runs an eco-conscious, quality driven operation using an Angus based cow herd, advanced grazing management techniques, a superior herd health program and a kinship with the land on which they operate. The tour also stopped at Davidson Gelbvieh & Lonesome Dove Ranch. The ranch is owned and operated by Ross and Tara Davidson and Vernon and Eileen Davidson, the ranch has established a herd of Gelbvieh cattle consisting of both purebred and commercial Red and Black Gelbviehs. Their focus is on raising quality cattle that are sound, functional and maternal. They take pride in raising Gelbvieh cattle, and from their own experience know the benefits of using great purebred genetics for their purebred and commercial herds. The tour was organized by the livestock branch of Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food.
