Tai Chi proves to be a success

Jessica Mees

Garth Herman leads the first Tai Chi class of the season in some breathing exercises.

Although not many people attended Monday night’s first Tai Chi class at the United Church, the people who did come out had a great time.

Surprisingly enough, no men showed up to the event leaving the teacher, Garth Herman as a lone soldier. This didn’t seem to stop him from showing everyone the true natures of the art, and helping to conquer everyone’s specific aches and pains.

Now if you aren’t interested in learning the fancy fast-paced version of the art, this could be the place for you. Moving at a gentle pace, the class learns together and focuses on the healing powers of Qigong.

The class began with a few warm up exercises, with soft music playing in the background.

An interesting fact, he explained during this time, that many readers may not know, is that simply reciting the Lord’s Prayer can help with your seven centers. It can be used as a way to open these centers and the glands that are related to them. All the way from “Our Father who art in heaven” to “And the glory forever”, affect the pineal, pituitary, thyroid, thymus, lyden, adrenal glands and the gonads.

All ages are welcome to the group, which makes it feel like quite the little community. Everyone is there to offer a helping hand to each other, and no judgments are passed amongst one and other.

The first class focused highly on the Golden Eight Exercises from the healing art of Qigong, as well as several simple breathing exercises. If you had forgotten to attend the first class, there is no need to worry, you can begin the classes at any time, and you do not have to start at a certain lesson.

Everyone should try it at least once. Not only are you in for feeling amazing afterwards, but you are also in for several good laughs as Herman himself is quite the comedian.
