Alex Popoff got credit for the touchdown that got the Raiders on the scoreboard and broke the Regina shutout bid with plenty of time left in regulation time but it was not meant to be as the visitors beat the YRHS, 16-8 on Sunday afternoon.
“We came out flat, maybe overconfident,” insists head coach Mike Jarvis.
Now it’s time to gear up for a return trip to Regina where he says they will entertain the other team in the league who is searching for their first win of the season.
He said it will be a make or break game for both teams but there is still enough time to possibly “sneak that playoff game” like they did last year.
“We’re going to work on intensity for the whole week,” he said of this weekend’s game which will take them out on the road.
Jarvis said he was happy with the way the team came together late in the game as they got the game to within one-score, needing a major and a two-point convert to tie.
Then it got even harder to not look at the seconds ticking down on the game clock.
“When your offence is on the field, it gets hard.”
They realize that they have to play football (for an entire four quarters).” This weekend, YRHS is in Regina to play the Lakers, says Jarvis.
