Over 100 descendants gather at Byblow reunion

Submitted Photo

John Byblow was born in Knizewski, Ukraine in 1893 and Katherine Fedun was born in Beele, Ukraine in 1897. In 1906, on separate voyages, they braved the unknown with their families and crossed an ocean to begin a new life in a strange new land called Canada. When John and Katherine arrived in Canada, they settled only as few miles apart, where they met and fell in love.  They were united in Holy Matrimony at St. Mary’s church in Yorkton, SK on November 23, 1915 and farmed in the Springside area; they had 13 children. Ninty-seven years after John and Katherine were married, on July 21 – 22, 2012 the descendants of John and Katherine Byblow gathered over 100 hundred strong at the Springside Arena to reunite, reminisce and enjoy each others company.  Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandchildren arrived from as far east as Ontario, as far West as Vancouver and as far North as the Yukon Territory. There are approximately 300 descendants of John and Katherine, so to have one third of the family together after all these years was a blessing. We would like to thank everyone who helped to make this Reunion a huge success and we extend a special Thank You to the SRA and staff of the Town of Springside for being very accommodating and providing assistance whenever it was possible to do so.
