Gag order granted
A Regina judge has granted a publication ban to protect the identity of RCMP undercover agents in the murder trial of George Allgood. In his judgment, Mr. Justice G.M. Currie ordered that: No person shall publish in any document or broadcast or transmit in any way any information disclosed in or in relation to this trial, that could identify the undercover operators (including the cover person who is also an undercover operator…" The officers in question posed as organized crime figures to solve the 2006 killing of Susan Reinhardt, a former girlfriend of Allgood. The publication ban will be in effect for three years.
Pot puffers pinched
Hudson Bay RCMP arrested a Manitoba couple on the weekend for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. A press release stated that an officer observed suspicious activity near a parked car while on patrol in Hudson Bay. "Upon approaching the vehicle the officer detected a strong odour of fresh marijuana," the release stated. A subsequent search uncovered 50 grams of marijuana and trafficking paraphernalia. Charlotte Delaronde, 40, and Marcel Delaronde, 36, were released on conditions and will appear in Hudson Bay provincial court October 25.
Still no date
A pre-trial conference in an alleged child abduction case was adjourned on September 13. Melvin Dale Koroluk is accused of luring and abducting a 10-year-old girl from the Yorkton Exhibition in July 2011. A new pre-trial has been set for October 3. Darren Grindle, the prosecutor in the case said he is confident the matter will be settled "one way or another" on that date. Possibilities other than a trial include a plea bargain or a dismissal of charges.
Shotgun threat
Forth Qu'Appelle RMCP pursued and arrested four men related to a firearms complaint on the Pasqua First Nation Saturday. Five individuals allegedly threatened another individual with a shotgun. Police located the five suspects in a vehicle at a nearby residence. The driver was able to flee the scene and has not been located, but the four other suspects were arrested without incident. The four males appeared in Fort Qu'Appelle provincial court Monday where the matter was adjourned until . The fifth suspect was still at large as of Tuesday and the investigation is ongoing.
