FUNCTION athletes a presence in S’toon

FUNCTION sent 10 athletes this past weekend to the fourth annual Bridge City Beat Down (BCBD) in Saskatoon. The BCBD is the largest CrossFit competition in Canada, with 200 athletes competing.

We’ve been in the community for well over a year, and we’ve grown to the point of having enough members to send a nice sized team of athletes. “It was inspiring to the coaches to see the strong performance of our athletes, many who had not competed in this type of event before”, said Taryn Romanowich, co-owner and head coach of FUNCTION.

Dana Prystupa, Michelle Walker, Renee Regimbal, Jaqueline Robert, Jon Robert, Jeff Sperling and Marc Dubreuil all competed in the ‘Brute’ Division and performed well. Coaches Nicole Ruttig and Lela Kaunitz competed in the ‘Beast’ Division and put forward an excellent effort. Romanowich also competed in the ‘Beast’ Division, finishing third.

Romanowich opened FUNCTION in March 2011 with Dr. Trevor Hove. Her focus on functional fitness and physique optimization has not only resulted in a reputation for being a leader in athletic performance and body composition improvement, but a major resource in the community and a leader in health and fitness.

While traditional fitness approaches focus on isolating muscles, training with machines and stretching, functional fitness focuses on not only addressing deficiencies in body composition, but deficiencies in the 10 domains of fitness: strength, power, speed, endurance, stamina, agility, accuracy, coordination, flexibility and balance.

“Many of our clients have had little to no success in resolving their fitness concerns. Our clients, are blown away by the results. It’s truly amazing,” she said.

Romanowich opened FUNCTION with a commitment to excellence and the goal of making a difference.

FUNCTION uses the most advanced training methods and techniques available that deliver results.

Results from the weekend: Brutes - females: Michelle (38th), Dana (43rd), Renee (47th),  Jaqueline (67th). Brutes - Males: Jeff (21st),

Marc (30th),  Jon (32nd) (including a 2nd Place finish in WOD 1). Beasts - Females: Coach Taryn (3rd), Coach Lela (20th), Coach Nicole (28th).
