Saints soccer team makes the A side consolation

The SHHS Saints girls soccer team, modelling green jerseys, hosted a weekend tournament where they played their way to the A side consolation. Above action from a 12-nil victory over Luther College of Regina.

Lady Saints soccer team hosted their annual soccer tournament Friday and Saturday. They hosted an 8 team tournament consisting of 2A and 3A schools.  The Lady Saints opened the tournament with a 12-0 victory over Regina Luther. Leading the way was Rita Fetsch who netted six goals in this game.

Bryce Sherring scored twice and singles were added by Kaylee Ford, Morgan Shymanski, Shayla Merriam, and Hannah Nagy.

Rookie Gr. 11 keeper Amy Prybylski recorded the shutout.

Prybylski, who is just learning the keeper position, played very well all tournament. She shows many qualities that will help her develop into a top notch goalie.

The Saints were without striker Fetsch for their two remaining two games as she attended a soccer tryout in Saskatoon.

The Saints played extremely well in their second game against powerhouse St. Mary from Prince Albert but dropped a very close decision 1-0. They  moved the ball around well and played strong defence.

In the final game, which was the A side consolation final, the ladies played Regina Campbell who proved too strong for the Saints defeating them 4-1. Shayla Merriam scored the goal for the Saints. These were the first three games of the season for the Saints.

They will be attending Moose Jaw this weekend where they will play five tournament games in a 16 team tournament against some of the top girls soccer teams in the province.

The Lady Saints will be focusing on improving their ball movement, making wise decisions with ball distribution, getting a better first touch on the ball and overall conditioning.
