The Sacred Heart girls soccer team won bronze medals at a tournament held in Prince Albert over the weekend.
The opening game saw Sacred Heart win 8-1 over Prince Albert’s Carlton B team. Rita Fetsch had six goals while Kaylee Ford and Lauren Maier each had one. Game two saw Sacred Heart get held off the scoresheet completely, in a 3-nil loss to Prince Albert’s St. Mary. The final match for Sacred Heart was a 1-nil victory over Lloydminster. Fetsch scored the lone goal while keeper Amy Prybylski recorded the shutout.
“With a young and inexperienced team, the Saints won two games and lost one,” says coach Jeanne Fetsch.
“The Saints still remain undefeated against all 2A school,” she added.
Sacred Heart’s record now sits at 7-4.
Midfielder Shayla Merriam moved in to play central defence for the weekend in the absence of regular sweeper and did a fantastic job, notes coach Fetsch. Defender Connor Rosluk had three strong games. Rookie Taneisha Roussin impressed with her strong play and marked improvement.
“She is a very coachable young lady who desires to improve her game,” notes Fetsch.
EXHIBITION
Fetsch said there are exhibition matches being planned that would see Sacred Heart take on the YRHS.
“The Saints will have exhibition games against the Yorkton Regional High School and Hamiota in the next couple of weeks as they prepare for the regional tournament,” Fetsch declared. The regional tournament has been set for Oct. 19-20 at Sacred Heart. At stake is the provincials in Saskatoon.
