What better way to light up the first November night of 2012 than with great music! The Yorkton Arts Council presents their next Stars for Saskatchewan concert, David Myles, on Thursday, November 1 at 8:00 p.m. in the Anne Portnuff Theatre, Yorkton Regional High School.
David Myles is a Canadian songwriter/performer/recording artist originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick. Myles, his wife Nina, and daughter Maria live in Halifax, Nova Scotia. While growing up in Fredericton, Myles began playing the trumpet at the tender age of ten, and also played in school bands. He attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB, and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in political science. Life took an interesting twist when, in 2001, as part of his undergraduate studies, David took an exchange to a city two hours from Shanghai, China to learn Mandarin. It was here that he bought his first guitar!
David is looking forward to his prairie visits. “I’ve been looking forward to this tour since the day it was booked. It’s such a unique tour. When I tell people I’m doing 20 shows in Saskatchewan and not one in Regina and Saskatoon they can’t believe it. I love playing smaller towns so this’ll be really fun. I’m looking forward to really getting to know the province. I’ve always felt there’s a connection between people from the prairies and the Maritimes. A similar openness and friendliness that I really dig.” David commented. He likes the adventure of visiting a new place. “Also, playing in towns where people don’t know me at all is always a fun undertaking as well. I’ve worked really hard to make the show something that is entertaining in the general sense and not just meant for any particular age group or fan of a particular style of music. We like to bounce around between folk, late 50’s soul style music and bluegrass. It keeps it exciting for us that way too,” David added.
“People have probably heard David on the radio; one of his newest songs, “Simple Pleasures”, is a great song that has you singing along, yet it makes you think and look at your life with joy and appreciation. I’m just so excited that we’re getting such a great entertainer in Yorkton!” said Debbie Hayward, performing arts coordinator for the Yorkton Arts Council.
David Myles has been nominated for three Music Nova Scotia Awards — Male Artist Recording of the Year for his album Into the Sun, Recording of the Year for Into the Sun, and Entertainer of the Year.
