Convict gets additional seven months

A Yorkton judge tacked another seven months onto Bronson Gordon’s jail time January 30. Gordon, 28, pleaded guilty to assault for his part in a robbery and slashing at Kahkewistahaw Gas & Convenience Store on December 31.

The Crown alleged that on the morning of New Year’s Eve, Gordon, along with co-accused Francis Bellegarde attacked a man at the gas bar. Gordon struggled with the man before Bellegarde pulled a kitchen knife. The victim sustained a large gash from under his nose to his mouth and to the back of his head.

Gordon was originally charged with aggravated assault and robbery, but the Crown dropped that to simple assault and issued a stay of proceedings on the robbery charge in exchange for his guilty plea.

Bellegarde was sentenced to 30 months on January 16 when he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.

At the sentencing hearing, his attorney said the attack was the result of Bellegarde being disgruntled with the victim for selling drugs to his young pregnant niece.

Gordon was already serving a six-month sentence for his part in a string of thefts over the Christmas holidays. He will serve the seven-month sentence consecutively.
