Bantam AA Terriers

After splitting a pair of road games, the bantam AA Terriers jumped into fourth spot in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League standings with a 12-9-4 record.

The Terriers blew a major lead in their first match against the Melville Millionaires on Tuesday, Feb. 5, losing 4-3.

Logan Foster notched two and Mckenzie Welke added another to give the Terriers a quick 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes.

“We had some really good line matches early in the game,” says Terriers head coach Damon Kustra. “We got our top line against their third line and scored some early goals.”

“Foster had a really good game. He got three points and really kept his legs moving in the game.”

The Millionaires got on the board at the 12:05 mark in the second period with Caleb Riess finding the back if the net.

With only 14 second left in the second, Melville came within one of Yorkton. Taylor Elmy lit the lamp, knocking the wind out of the Terriers.

“Those late goals killed us, especially their late goal in the second,” says Kustra. “If they didn’t get that, we would have gone into the second with a two-goal lead, but they scored and it really gave them some energy.”

Riess’ hot stick didn’t cool off in the third period. He tied the game up at three for the Millionaires at the 7:27 mark. And with only 42 seconds left in the contest, he finished out his hat trick to win the game.

“It was disappointing when they scored in the last minute,” adds Kustra. “They got a power play late in the game and they capitalized on it.”

The Terriers bested the Regina Monarchs 3-2 in their second game on Monday, Feb. 11.

The box score was unavailable at press time.
