The Gallagher Centre hosted the ECDAA District Curling Championship this past weekend on February 8-9.

This was the qualifying event for the Regional Championship, which will take place on February 15-16 in Estevan. The top-two boys, girls and mixed teams advanced to the championship.

Preecville came out on top of the boys' category on Friday. They are, however, unable to make it to Regionals; therefore, third-place Sacred Heart will join second-place Esterhazy in the Estevan-based championship.

Esterhazy ran away with gold in the girls' action. They topped YRHS on Friday afternoon.

YRHS squared off against Sacred Heart in the B-final on Saturday. Sacred Heart took the tilt, running away with silver.

"The ECDAA has a very strong field of girls teams and will be well represented in Estevan this weekend," says Regional curling coach Lana Sebastian.

It was a YRHS showdown in the mixed action with YRHS1 taking on YRHS2 in the gold medal game. YRHS1 edged YRHS2 in the contest. YRHS2 did bounce back in their next game, defeating Sturgis for the silver medal.

"YRHS2 struggled in the first few ends, but made an impressive comeback to win the silver medal," adds Sebastian.
