Awaiting Invermay facility study

Sunrise Health Region is still waiting for an engineering report which will detail what work needs to be undertaken at the Invermay Health Centre.

The Invermay facility has been under temporary closure for about a month after investigations were undertaken when an employee noticed a structural change in the floor at the home Jan. 17.

A structural engineer was brought in to investigate and found issues with air quality in that crawl space in the affected area

As a result residents were transferred to other facilities within the health region, and structural engineers and air quality personnel were to fully investigate the facility.

Lorelei Stusek vice president of corporate services with the SHR told the regular Board meeting Feb. 27, “We’re still awaiting the reports. We’re working diligently on it.”

Stusek said once the reports are completed, expected as early as last Friday “they will be sent off to the ministry.”

The local health region will work with the provincial ministry to undertake whatever the reports indicate need done.

The delay in the engineering report revolves around establishing costs, said Stusek.

“We want firm cost estimate to take to the ministry,” she said.

As for the air quality concern, Stusek said the mold was found to be “confined to the crawl space.”
