Australian runners who threatened boycott are in village, to compete at Olympics

LONDON - Two runners upset over selection decisions in the Australian team have backed down from their threat to boycott the London Olympics.

Australian chef de mission Nick Green said Thursday that Josh Ross and John Steffensen had both moved into the athletes village and planned to compete.

Ross complained earlier this week that he should have been given an individual spot in the 100 metres and not selected only for the 4x100-meter relay.

Last week, 400-meter runner John Steffensen, who has South African heritage but was born in Australia, threatened to boycott the games and alleged racism after only being given a spot on the 4x400-meter relay.
