Pure Flavor pre-cut veggie brands recalled over listeria bacteria fears

TORONTO - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to consume certain Pure Flavor brand pre-cut vegetables because they may be contaminated with listeria bacteria.

The recall affects Pure Flavor brand's Freshly Cut Grillers in Premium Medley, Asparagus Blend, Rustic Blend and Steak Topper trays with expiration dates of Aug. 11 through Aug. 26.

The products, made by Leamington, Ont.-based Pure Hothouse Foods Inc., have been distributed across Ontario.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of the products so far.

Food contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria may not look or smell spoiled but can cause listeriosis.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
