Tree house tiff: neighbours complain about playhouse in Saskatoon yard

SASKATOON - The Saskatchewan Appeals Board has a bit of a tree house tiff on its hands.

A family in the Montgomery neighbourhood of Saskatoon has enjoyed a backyard playhouse for decades, but neighbours want the large structure removed.

The disagreement began when a tree that once obscured the playhouse from view was cut down.

Neighbours complained that the playhouse was an eyesore and also infringed on their privacy because it now overlooked their yard.

A Saskatoon board sided with the tree house family.

But city administration has sent the issue to the appeals board for a ruling because the structure is higher than allowed.

"In this day and age, when they're fussing and complaining about kids not getting enough exercise ... our kids are outside playing, and they're imagining and they're pretending," said tree house mom Debbie Block.

"They're having so much fun out there."

A decision by the appeals boards is to be made by the end of the year.
