Yorkton Pride Day has been declared by Yorkton Council for Oct. 17.

The request for the declaration was made at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday by Laura Budd representing the Saskatchewan Pride Network.

The Saskatchewan Pride Network is a provincial wide initiative of Moose Jaw Pride. Moose Jaw Pride is a non-profit organization that is providing support and education to individuals who identify as Gender or Sexually diverse (GSD).

In order to send the message that the City of Yorkton is an inclusive and welcoming community to all we at the Saskatchewan Pride Network realize that public acceptance starts with visibility, said Budd.

To assist with this visibility and to help raise awareness and education to the Saskatchewan Pride Network would like to request a proclamation that October 17, 2016 be designated as “Yorkton Pride Day” to celebrate inclusivity and diversity that exists in the City of Yorkton.

In addition to the declaration, it was requested the Rainbow Pride Flag be raised at City Hall.

Council was unanimous is supporting the request.
