Andrusiak off to major cadet summit

Congratulations to Brooklynn Andrusiak who was chosen as the top female cadet of Saskatchewan to represent the air cadets at the North American Leader Summit in Ottawa on June 28, 2016.

Congratulations to Brooklynn Andrusiak who was chosen as the top female cadet of Saskatchewan to represent the air cadets at the North American Leader Summit in Ottawa on June 28, 2016. She saw and listened to the speeches given by our Prime Minister Trudeau, President Obama and the president of Mexico. It was a great thrill when she shook  the hands of President Obama and Prime Minister Trudeau. She also attended the Field Youth Summit and took part in the Ottawa Canada Day Celebration. Brooklynn is the daughter of Chasity (nee Dutchak) and Daryl Andrusiak of Tisdale and is Rose Dutchak and Ken Mus’s granddaughter.

Visiting Rose Dutchak and Ken Mus this weekend are their grandchildren Tori, Erica & Taylor Dutchak of Birch Hills and Abbigail Andrusiak of Tisdale.

Deepest sympathy from the Town of Bredenbury to Laura & Glenn Langford and family on the passing of Laura’s mother who lived in Whitewood.

Tyson Herron of Regina is visiting with his grandparents Dave & Gloria Herron.

Good luck to Brittany Varga who will be travelling to Estevan July 24-27 to compete in 800 meters & relay at the Saskatchewan Summer Games.

Family Fun was the focus of the Burman Family Reunion held on June 25 and 26 at the farm of Gary and Barb Burman, near Bredenbury. Several descendants of John and Annie Burman (who arrived in the Clumber District with their sons Arthur, Frank and Ted in 1907) joined together to remember their heritage and celebrate with fun activities planned for the young and old alike. Fun activities included old time favourites such as three-legged and egg and spoon races as well as family history trivia questions aimed at connecting the young with the young at heart. As family members, along with extended family, arrived they were greeted with picture displays, memorabilia, and a booklet of memories collected from the children and grandchildren of Frank and Alice Burman. Favourite family recipes, including many of Alice Burman’s, were featured in the meals enjoyed that weekend.

Fifty-one people attended this wonderful event including the children of Frank and Alice Burman (Gerald Burman of Bredenbury, and Merle McLachlan and Lynn Taylor of Regina) as well as grandchildren of Ted and Juliet Burman (Merv Wiley and Don and Dale Burman). Ages in attendance ranged from 22 months to 89 years. Mildred Miller from Mission City, BC and Audrey Stricker of Maple Creek, SK (children of frank and Alice Burman) were unable to attend but sent their well wishes for a successful weekend. Unfortunately the weather man did not fully cooperate so the fireworks planned for Saturday evening had to be postponed until Sunday night to be enjoyed by a much smaller group.

The weekend truly highlighted the connection of family and the importance of nurturing those ties. How special to have held the reunion in a spot where six generations of Burmans have been present. Many thanks to all who attended and made it the wonderful weekend it was!
