CALDER - Community takes part in celebrations

Family and friends gathered at the Calder Good Neighbour Centre to help Gordon Kahut celebrate his 80th birthday. Marie Rohatensky is home after spending the winter months in Calgary and Kelowna with her children and grandchildren.

The Calder School was busy getting ready for the Indoor Track and Field meet which was held at the Gallagher Centre Flex Hall in Yorkton.

The SGI FI Camp is coming to Calder School next month. SGI-FI Camp is based out of the University of Saskatchewan and consists of classroom workshops, featuring hands on activities related to what the students are learning in science class.

Calder Kindergarten Registration will be coming up soon. If you know anybody born in 2009 please call Calder School for more information.

The grade seven band students performed at the Optimist Festival in Regina. They did very well and the adjudicators gave them good reviews. Good Job to ALL the students.

The Calder Yalenka Dance Club has been busy getting ready for their first competition of the year. The Calder Yalenka Dance Club and their instructor, Kallie Haas, went to Brandon, Manitoba, where they did really great. Great job to the dancers. The Calder Yalenka Dance Club will be heading to Russell, Manitoba for their next competition and then Yorkton. The Calder Yalenka Dance Club did a really good job at the Russell Competition. Good to all the dancers for job well done.

Margie Mankish had her daughters, Donna and Marianne out for a few days.

Randy, Donna, Madison Haas from Regina visited with Mildred Danylko and the rest of the family.

Dave, Erin, Tori and Chase Andrews from White City visited with Mildred Danylko and the rest of the family.

The Calder Endless Possibilities 4-H Club will be holding an ATV DERBY on May 10, 2014. Registration starts at 10 o'clock to 12 noon at the Calder Community Rink. Hotdogs, drinks and fuel will be available at half way point. Food available at the Calder Community Rink all day long. Must be 16 years old. Rain or Shine so come out and enjoy the scenic trails and support our local Calder Endless Possibilities 4-H Club.

The Calder Good Neighbour Centre held their whist drive. The following are the winners: Gordon Kahut, Ann Mostoway, Donald Kahut, low Marie Rohatensky. The Pot of Gold winners were Judy Pryslak and Virginia Wandy.

Family and friends from Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan gathered at the Calder Community Hall for a Bridal Shower for Kama Bauer.

Calder School's Grade 4, 5 and 6 students participated in the GSSD Standards Indoor Track Meet in April. Six students advanced to the Showcase Meet and finished six times in the top ten in the school division. Kaidean Baumung brought home the gold medal in Grade four boys Shot Put with Dalton Baumung finishing fourth, one centimetre behind third place. Congratulations team Calder.

Calder School entered Saltcoats Archery Shoot. Competing in his first shoot, Lane Baumung scored 236 to bring home the bronze medal. Lane has earned the opportunity to participate in the provincial NASP (National Archery in Schools Program) in Regina.

The Calder Seniors held their Birthday Social. The persons celebrating their birthdays for the last few months are as followed: Lil Wozny, Gordon Kahut, Marie Rohantensky, James Fustey and Marjory Mankish.

The winners of the birthday social whist drive are as followed: Elsie Baumung of Roblin, Walter Eckert of Roblin, Kim Shymko of Calder, and low James Fustey of Calder. Pot of Gold winners were Mildred Danylko and Norman Wozny.

The Calder Playschool held their graduation on April 28, 2014 with eight students presented. Heading to kindergarten in the fall will be Layla Rapchalk, Heidi Andres and Jon Wiebe. The other students will be heading back to playschool for one more year then heading to kindergarten too. Coming back to playschool this fall will be Nickolas, Tayter, Jessica and Jackson.

So if you know anyone who has a three or four year old, who would like to attend the Calder Playschool Program in the fall phone 306-742-2167 for more information. Playschool will start at the beginning of October to the end of April.

The Calder Seniors held their whist drive on May 3, 2014, at the Calder Good Neighbour Centre. These are the winners of the whist drive: Virginia Wandy, Arthur Martinuk, Elmer Eftoda and low went to Marlene Balabuk. The Pot of Gold winners were Judy Pryslak and Pete Wereschuk.

Julie Mclean has her daughter and grandchildren visiting with family and friends.

The Calder Recreation Board will be holding a Community and Surrounding Area Consignment Auction Sale on June 22, 2014 at the Calder Community Rink. For more information phone Ivan at 306-621-8855 or Curtis @ 204-937-0144.

Breakfast will be held at the Calder Community Rink starting at 8 o' clock. Pulled Pork on a bun, hotdogs, coffee and drinks will be available all day long. So if you have some stuff you want to sell like household, antiques, farm machinery etc, bring it down to the rink on Friday or Saturday for set up.
