The Village was devastated by a fire on Tuesday at noon. The Bernier Street Hotel, that has been a mainstay of the village and it's only full time permanent business, burned to the ground. Sympathy of the community is extended to the owners, Sheldon and Charmaine Freed, their daughters, Allyssa, Randolyn and Hunter and their families.
Darlene Yuke was unable to attend coffee row but she bought coffee and supplied donuts for everyone anyway to celebrate her birthday. Thanks and we wish you many happy returns and many more birthdays to come.
At Saturday's coffee row, Darlene Stevenson from Stockholm brought delicious baking and treated everyone to coffee on the occasion of her birthday. Her husband, Stu, accompanied her. There was a good group of 22, lots of laughs and visiting. Her cousin, Darrell Tremblay, who grew up in Dubuc and now resides in BC, shares her birthday on June 6 and is now on Harper's payroll. Happy birthday, Darlene and Darrell, and thanks for celebrating with us at coffee row, Darlene.
Jim Arthurs was born in Nov. 1934 in Dubuc and passed away in Calgary AB June 9, 2013. Sympathy of the Dubuc community goes out to his wife, Marion, of Calgary; 3 sons: Douglas of Vancouver, BC, David (Sandra) and their children, Danielle and Shayne, Kamloops, BC and Graham (Pom) from Thailand; 4 sisters: Rosemarie Baker from Melville, Melba (Ron) McAlpine of Dubuc, Annette Beerling from Kelowna, BC, and Paulette (Jerome) Herperger of Regina; 1 brother: Scott (Janet) Arthurs from St. Albert, AB. Predeceased by son Fraser.
The regular monthly potluck took the form of a BBQ in June. There were 43 people in attendance. Peter Nielsen was the cook and did a very good job. The Father's Day door prize winner was Ken Kaczur who won a handy shaving case. Vivian Talbot was the lucky $20 winner of the 50/50. The winners of the "squares" raffle were also drawn that evening: Coffee Maker donated by Carscaddens, Doug Morley; Sunglasses donated by Nathan Knezacek's office, Terry Mohl of Broadview; Jacket donated by Dawn Nagy @ Stockholm Agencies, Terra Talbot; and Ducks Unlimited Blanket Quillow was won by Donna Toth of Stockholm. Out of town guests at the supper were Murray Nielsen, North Battleford (visiting with his parents, Audrey and Peter Nielsen); Joanne Matyas, Saskatoon; Pat and Margaret Matyas, Esterhazy; Ken Kaczur, Stockholm; Courtney Polson (staying with Arick Hawes @ Dubuc); Stefan Zellweger, Switzerland (hired man at Devries); and visitors from Rapid City, South Dakota were Carol and Otto Oehlerking and Ron and Jewel Wielander who were camping and fishing at Round Lake.
