Festival grows as do Yorkton cultures

The Yorkton Festival of Cultures celebrated its sixth year November 20 at Sacred Heart High School highlighting the growing diversity in the city.

The Yorkton Festival of Cultures celebrated its sixth year November 20 at Sacred Heart High School highlighting the growing diversity in the city. Cultures represented in food, fashion and arts this year included First Nations, Germany, Ukraine, United Kingdom,  China, Poland, Serbia, Philippines, Jamaica, Mexico, Thailand, India, Nigeria and, of course, Canada, of which all are now a part. “A nation’s culture lives in the hearts and in the soul of its people,” said Mahatma Ghandi. Yorkton’s heart and soul has become very colourful indeed with the arrival of each new group. The festival included pavilions for each of the individual groups represented; performances on the stage in the theatre, which was packed to standing room only capacity and breakout sessions.
