While Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Patsy Cline are no longer with us, their music remains immortal, emanating from stereos across the nation to this day.
On Apr. 7, the Louisiana Hayride Spring Spectacular will be bringing them back to the stage at the Anne Portnuff Theatre.
The concert is named after the Louisiana Hayride, a television show that ran from 1948 to 1960, and was often the only way people across America could see those performers on stage. Just as Elvis performed That’s Alright Mama on stage at 19 in his first appearance at the show, Vic De Sousa’s Elvis tribute will be performing that song, among other favorites.
The cast of multi-talented musicians includes Gil Risling on electric and acoustic guitar, and on vocals in character as Roy Orbison. Andrea Anderson takes on the role and the voice of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Crystal Gayle.
She also tackles new country with Shania Twain.William Brookfield is on double keyboard, guitar, and vocals. He takes on old school country with Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Derek Pulliam adds stand-up bass, guitar, and authentic vocals when he treats the audience to songs by classic country legends such as Lefty Frizzell and Bobby Bare.
“The music in this show will bring back memories from a bygone era. This is music the audience remembers, either first hand, or, in many cases, it’s music they remember their parents or grandparents playing. Music that’s no longer easily accessible,” said Gil Risling, who created the show with Lori Risling.
The goal is to take the audience back in time and provide authentic performances that echo the original legendary performers and take the audience back to when the Louisiana Hayride was on the air.
