Weather conditions Saturday were ideal for the Gear-up event at Harley Davidson of Yorkton. A joint venture of Yorkton Harley Davidson and the Yorkton Harley Owners Group (HOG) chapter, the day afforded area motorcyclists with some great deals on bikes and accessories, music, free hot dogs and chili and a chance to admire the gleaming machinery both in the showroom and parking lot as well as chance to visit and swap tales of the open road.

Yorkton HOG president Heinz Wanders says the club served up the chili, pop and coffee and hired a live band, Trailer Trash, to entertain the crowd on hand at the Gear-Up event staged by Rick Dawson of Harley Davidson of Yorkton.

Wanders says the club's biggest concern now is the condition of Saskatchewan highways. The group plans to hold its first poker run of the current season and hopes the roads are ready.

The Yorkton HOG chapter has about 70 members registered, Wanders reports. "As soon as the weather warms up more people sign up," he says.

Harley Davidson of Yorkton owner Rick Dawson says he just got a little tired of people being bummed out with the weather, the long winter and flooding. He and the local HOG chapter decided to organize a day to have local enthusiasts spend some time with no pressure, enjoying a band and some chili. "It's a good way to spend an hour or two down here at the store," he suggests.

The event provided an opportunity for the local Harley owners to come down, talk bikes, get ready for the year, schedule some tune-ups and check out the store inventory. "We're paying the taxes on the merchandise they but today whether it's parts or accessories," Dawson points out.

Harley Davidson sales, while down across Canada, remain strong in Saskatchewan, Dawson reports. He tries to create a good atmosphere at the store and his staff tries their best to cater to everybody's needs, Dawson claims.

He cautions people to be careful when they ride as some Saskatchewan roads currently offer less than ideal surface conditions. He suggests riders might like to check road conditions with friends or family before setting out in order to be safe.

Dawson advises against drinking and riding and to be extra careful when riding at night.

"Everybody have fun out there," Dawson closes.
