The Government of Saskatchewan’s annual work zone safety advertising campaign is underway. Radio, print and billboard advertisements will increase awareness and promote safe driving behaviour in work zones this summer and fall.
“The message is simply slow to 60 km/hr in work zones,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner said. “I can’t emphasize it enough. Safety measures are put in place in our work zones for the safety of our crews and the drivers.”
It’s black and white. Signs indicating the speed limit in work zones are not a suggestion. They are the law and there will be enforcement including photo speed enforcement that will target speeders. Those who don’t obey the speed limit can expect to see fines starting at $300.
“Our roads will be getting busier as summer vacation is around the corner,” Heppner said. “I urge all drivers to slow down and drive safely.”
Meanwhile, the ministry is seeing progress on a number of projects. While there is no new work to report this week, many projects have been completed. Highway 21 through Kerrobert and Highways 11 and 2 near MacDowall are paved. Highways 3 near Shell Lake, Highway 39 near Estevan and Roche Percee and Highway 55 near Debden have been seal coated. Highway 41 near Yellow Creek has a new culvert.

Drivers are reminded to slow to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers and equipment and observe the posted speed limits in construction zones.
