A frozen sewer line kept the Yorkton Public Library out of commission over the weekend.

The library began experiencing backups on Friday. An inspection revealed there was no running water in the building.

“You can’t have the library open without running water,” said Taylor Morrison, the Recreation Services Manager with the City of Yorkton.
The library remained closed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

“[We had a] good handful of city workers [working on it],” Morrison said.

The music exchange and story time events at the library were canceled due to the closure.

Morrison said frozen pipes are not uncommon in Yorkton at this time of the year, but he added that this was the first time he’d seen it at the library.

“I’ve found frost six feet down [around town],” he said.

The library reopened on Tuesday.
