Following a request from both the Yorkton Kinsmen, and Kinette Clubs Yorkton, Council unanimously declared Kin Week for March 1-7 in the city.

“The Kinsmen and Kinettes motto is serving the communities greatest need, and our vision is to create and promote strong, healthy, and engaged Canadian Communities. We feel that announcing March 1-7 as Kin week here in Yorkton will help for us to support that goal at a local level and bring awareness of our organization to the community,” detailed a letter to Council from the two clubs.

“March 7, is the start of the 39th annual Telemiracle Telethon and declaring this week Kin week will help raise awareness for this amazing project Saskatchewan Kin look after. Our local clubs have been hosting events to raise money for this event over the past few weeks.”

Lana Klemetski, with the Kinette Club said Telemiracle is only one of several projects the groups support annually. Others include help for cystic fibrosis programs nationally, the Salvation Army Christmas campaign and Shelwin House locally.

“Additionally our clubs hold several projects throughout the year to raise money and all of the funds raised stay local in our community3,” detailed the letter.

At present the Kinsmen Club has 27 active members in the city, while the Kinettes have 16.
