The Yorkton Film Festival has received its annual funding through Saskatchewan Arts Board.

The local Festival was awarded a $52,775 SaskFestivals Multi-Year grant to support programming and operations for 2017-2018.

“It’s our operating grant,” explained Festival Executive Director Randy Goulden. “… This is absolutely the biggest funding that we get.”

Goulden said the money is the second year of a three-year commitment for grant dollars.

“This allows us to plan and to go about implementing all the festivities we do year-round,” she said.

The Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers Association was also awarded a $3,556 Artists in Communities – Projects grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board to host the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers 2017 convention in Yorkton.

The SaskFestivals program supports and encourages festival organizations in the province that have a positive impact on the arts in Saskatchewan. This includes financial support for their artistic programs and services and governance, management, administrative and operational functions. The program is supported by funding from SaskCulture Inc. through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation.

The Arts Board’s Artists in Communities – Projects grant program provides funding to allow communities to engage in the arts through performances, exhibitions or workshops or to work with an artist to plan a residency. This program is funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board and by SaskCulture through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation.

At the most recent grant deadlines, the Saskatchewan Arts Board awarded funding to almost 130 individuals and organizations, totaling close to $1.6 million. Arts Board funding supports a variety of initiatives, including organizations that provide ongoing programs in the arts, the creative work of professional artists, community art projects and the engagement of professional artists to work in schools with students and teachers.

The Saskatchewan Arts Board was established in 1948 as the first agency of its kind in North America and second in the world to the Arts Council of Great Britain. In the decades since then, it has continued as a leader in Canada and builds on this strong tradition to meet ongoing opportunities for public investment in the arts community. The Arts Board recognizes, encourages and supports the arts to enrich community well-being, creativity, diversity and artistic prosperity.
