The new year wasn’t even a full day old when Kevin Tank and Kelly Klus discovered a $1 million lottery win. The couple won on their Western Million Scratch ‘n Win ticket, one of 10 games in their $20 Player’s Choice Mega Pack.

Tank and Klus uncovered the windfall while they settled in for the evening on January 1. Klus started scratching lottery tickets while Tank chose a movie. When she got to the Western Million ticket, she saw something she’d never seen before.

“I saw three $1 million prize amounts,” she said. “I asked Kevin how many you need to match to win the prize. He told me three, and I froze.”

Tank took a look at the ticket and he had a similar reaction.

“My jaw dropped,” he said. “We couldn’t believe we had just won a million dollars!”

“We spent most of the night pacing around the house, staring at the ticket,” said Tank. “We tried to go to bed, but we finally ended up driving to the store to confirm it. We had to make sure we weren’t fooling ourselves.”

The happy couple said they plan to put some money away for a comfortable retirement, but they also plan to enjoy some of their good fortune now.

“We’re going to cross a few things off our bucket list,” said Tank. “We want a Fiat Spider, and we want to travel more.”

Klus agreed, especially with the travel plans.

“The first thing I said to Kevin was, ‘New York City, here I come!’” she said.

Tank purchased the winning Player’s Choice Mega Pack at Prairie Co-operative Ltd., located at 200 Bailey Drive in Melville.
