Parkland College holds 2015 graduation

More than 500 people attended Friday’s ceremony, including about 125 graduates.

Parkland College held its annual graduation ceremony Friday, June 5 at St. Mary’s Cultural Centre in Yorkton. Family, friends, and College staff congratulated and celebrated 335 students who successfully completed one of more than 20 programs offered at the College in 2014-15.

Parkland College offers University degrees, skills training diplomas and certificates, and Adult Basic Education upgrading. Graduates from post-secondary programs receive accreditation from the University of Regina, Lakeland College Emergency Training Centre, Saskatchewan Polytechnic, and Parkland College.

This year, the graduates represent 60 communities. Yorkton led the way with 137 grads, followed by Kamsack with 48, Fort Qu’Appelle with 21, Melville with 18, and Regina with 12. This year’s graduating class also includes students from British Columbia and Manitoba.

The guest speaker was Dr. Fay Myers, President of Parkland College. This was her final graduation ceremony after serving 18 years as the College’s president and CEO. Bachelor of Nursing student Eric McDowell presented Dr. Myers with a locally made artwork to commemorate the milestone. McDowell was the recipient of the 2014-15 President’s Scholarship Award for Excellence.

Newly appointed Advanced Education Minister Scott Moe was in attendance and brought greetings on behalf of the provincial government.
