On April 8-9, Canadian youth from schools, churches and youth organizations across the country volunteered 30 hours of their time with the goal to raise more than $4.65 million nation wide to help improve the lives of less fortunate children throughout the world.

Youth across Canada celebrated the change they are making with activities ranging from concerts and dances to games, movie nights and sleep overs.

Organizers said they expected over 60,000 Canadian youth to partake in the famine this year, and last year over 500,000 youth raised over $30 million. The goal of the World Vision 30 Hour Famine is to raise money to support and sustain programs that provide things like food, clean water, child protection and education.

The 30 hour famine started 40 years ago in 1971 and was an idea of a young Calgary resident, who is still a very proud supporter. This event is now the world's largest youth movement to fight poverty, hunger and injustice.
