Yorkton RCMP intercept illegal cigarette shipment

Yorkton Municipal RCMP, with the aid of the CN Rail Police, have arrested a Saskatchewan woman and seized a shipment of illegal tobacco products. At approximately 8 p.m.

Yorkton Municipal RCMP, with the aid of the CN Rail Police, have arrested a Saskatchewan woman and seized a shipment of illegal tobacco products.

At approximately 8 p.m. on April 8 CN Police called the RCMP for assistance with a traffic stop within the city of Yorkton. A search of a vehicle and cargo trailer yielded approximatelty 200,000 cigarettes and $5,000 cash. The vehicle and trailer were also seized.

Monique Blanche Milliken, 61, of Beatty, Saskatchewan is charged with possession and transport of tobacco product exceeding 10,000 cigarettes for the purpose of sale and possession of proceeds of crime exceeding $5,000 under the Criminal Code and possession of unstamped tobacco product, a violation of the Excise Act.

Milliken was held in custody over the weekend. She appeared in Provincial Court in Yorkton on Monday April 10 and was released on an undertaking. She is scheduled appear again on May 8.

RCMP said an investigation is ongoing with the assistance and cooperation of CN Police.
