Ewald Jacob Liebrecht

Ewald Jacob Liebrecht was born on September 11, 1932, on the family farm in the Stornoway-Rhein District of Saskatchewan, the son of George and Elizabeth (nee Mehling). He was baptized on October 9, 1932 at the Stornoway Lutheran Church by Pastor K. Durdel. Ewald was raised on the family farm and attended Clyde School. He was confirmed on March 21, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stornoway by Reverend E. Mayan. Ewald helped on the farm and after his father, George, passed away in 1956, he continued to farm with his brother, Helmuth. On October 15, 1965, Ewald married Verna Mehling at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stornoway. They lived on the family farm and were blessed with one son, Timothy. Ewald was always involved in the Church, Walther League, Sunday School, as a Lay Reader, etc. In 1987, when Trinity Lutheran Church in Stornoway closed, he and Verna joined Zion Lutheran Church in Yorkton, where he served as an Elder, sang in the Choir and did some solos in Church and at Senior's Homes - Ewald loved to sing! Ewald had a lovely, compassionate nature that showed when he was tenderly working with his animals. He was from a time when men were expected to hide their true feelings, but his love for family shone through that tough facade and his family loved him for who he truly was. Ewald had a special love and pride for each of his family members and friends, especially his grandchildren who spent a lot of time with him. He had the confidence of God's love and promise that fortified his strength. May he now rest in peace and be fondly remembered for his quiet kindness. Ewald and Verna moved into Yorkton to make their home on Third Avenue North in May of 2015, but his heart was still at the farm and he continued to make almost daily trips to the farm. Ewald was predeceased by his parents, George and Elizabeth Liebrecht; his sisters, Alma Guenther, Helen White, Ella Tillman and Velma Clarke; his brother, Helmuth; his brothers-in-law, Walter Guenther, Arthur Tillman, William Clarke and Edmund Tillman; his parents-in-law, Edmund and Emma Mehling and sister-in-law, Marilyn Grenier. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his loving wife, Verna of Yorkton, SK; his son, Tim (Karen) of Rhein, SK; his grandchildren, Hunter, Dakota and Makeena of Rhein, SK; his adopted grandsons, Luc and Kyle; his sister, Erna Tillman of Springside, SK; sisters-in-law, Helen Liebrecht of Yorkton, SK, Janet (Edgar) Rathgeber of MacNutt, SK, Laurie (Greg) Hnatuik of Lloydminster, AB; brother-in-law, Phil Grenier of Edmonton, AB as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbours. Prayer Services were held on Friday, July 1, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Pastor Daniel Moeller officiating.
