Lena Repay entered into eternal rest on November 14, 2011 at the Theodore Health Centre in Theodore, SK with her family by her side. She was 89 years of age. Lena was born on October 30, 1922 in Hamton, SK, the daughter of Wasyl and Pauline Filipchuk (nee Kozmech), the oldest of nine children. She attended Hamton School and then went on to the School for the hearing impaired in Saskatoon. Lena married Metro Repay on November 24, 1946 and the couple was blessed with three children, Eugene, Elmer and Brenda. They worked on the farm until 1948 and in 1955 they moved to Theodore where Lena continued to keep house and raise her family while Metro worked until his retirement in 1979. Lena loved gardening, planting her petunias were her passion. She started them from seed and was happy to share them with her family. Lena loved to cook and bake especially for special occasions when everyone would get together. A social butterfly, Lena enjoyed Saturday night card games with her friends, Kinsmen T.V. Bingo and coffee row at the café. Lena was a faithful Parishioner of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Theodore. She will always be remembered by her contagious smile and willingness to always help others. A dedicated Mother, Baba and Great-Baba, Lena never failed to show her undying love. Lena was predeceased by her husband, Metro in 1997; her son, Eugene in infancy; her parents, Wasyl and Pauline Filipchuk; her brothers, Ernie, Bill, and John; one sister, Edith in infancy; sisters-in-law, Gloria Filipchuk; and niece, Brenda Lee Kercher. Lena leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, her son, Elmer (Bev) Repay of Springside, SK; her daughter, Brenda (Gary) Bird of Saskatoon, SK; two grandchildren, Melissa (Steve) Trainer of Victoria, B.C.; Ian (Kristy) Repay of Stony Plain, AB and two great grandchildren, Scott and Haleigh Repay of Stony Plain, AB; her brother, Dan Filipchuk of Yorkton, SK; her sisters, Ann (Marshall) Libitz of Calgary, AB, Mary (Arbey) Kercher of Abbotsford, B.C. and Susan Filipchuk of Calgary, AB; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Filipchuk of Calgary; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. Prayer services were held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton, SK with The Very Reverend Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Theodore, SK with The Very Reverend Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The Cross Bearer was Haleigh Repay and the Banner Bearers were Kristy Repay and Charlotte Filipchuk-Gardulski. The Interment service took place at the St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Parish Cemetery in Theodore, SK with Gary Bird, Bev Repay, Ian Repay, Scott Repay, Melissa Trainer and Steve Trainer serving as Casket Bearers.
