Anne Statchuk

Anne Statchuk, beloved wife of the late Robert Statchuk, passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on January 23, 2017, at the age of 84 years. Anne was born on April 2, 1932 to Teofil and Molly (Polichuk) Kucy in Welland, ON. She was the youngest of four children and thus grew up with three older brothers. Anne received her elementary and high school education in Welland and attended one year of boarding school in Toronto. She often recalled this year to be the most memorable and had many stories to share with her family. After high school Anne worked as a secretary in various positions. She also helped at home financially after her father passed away. On May 24, 1958 Anne married the love of her life, Robert Statchuk. While still in Toronto the couple were blessed with two children, Rosanne and Tracy. In 1962 the family relocated to the Buchanan, SK area. As a family they met the many challenges of grain farming operations and raising cattle. Robert and Anne were blessed with two more children, Curt and Jeremy and together they worked hard to maintain the farm and raise their four children. In addition to helping with the farm work Anne gardened, raised chickens and milked cows; however, she always made time to spend with her family. She nurtured and provided for her children and created many opportunities for them to make memories together. As a family they enjoyed Sunday picnics at the lake in the summer and many suppers with relatives on weekends. Anne always maintained a large, bountiful garden which she loved and found the task therapeutic. Baking was an additional passion for her. Her specialties were her delicious donuts and bread. Her grandchildren were always excited and full of anticipation for her terrific homemade buns. A devoted Catholic, Anne was very involved with the church as a member as well as in the role of president of the ladies' association, a position she took very seriously. In 2007 Robert and Anne decided to sell the farm and move to Canora where Anne greatly enjoyed working with the Ukrainian Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary. After three years, Robert's health began to fail, which prompted a relocation to Victoria Court in Yorkton where Anne continued to reside until her passing. Although Anne loved living in Yorkton she always had a longing for the farm. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Teofil and Molly; husband, Robert; son, Tracy and her brother, Alex. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Rosanne (Don) Brezinski of Yorkton, Curt (Adele) of Golden, BC and Jeremy of Unity, SK; her grandchildren: Jesse Brezinski of Calgary, AB, Rylan (Toni) Brezinski of Penhold, AB, Haley (Dan) Gignac of Saskatoon, SK, Brandyn Statchuk of Kelowna, BC and Reid Statchuk of Golden, BC and her brothers, Emil (Velma) of Fenwick, ON and Zane of Hamilton, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:00 am from the Descent of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, Buchanan with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as Celebrant. Rite of Committal followed in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Buchanan. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Descent of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church or to a Charity of Donor's Choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Anne Statchuk.
