Anne (nee Graf) Thorne

Anne (nee Graf) Thorne passed away suddenly and peacefully on September 18, 2015, at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. She was 95 years of age. Anne was born on February 22, 1920, the daughter of David and Elizabeth (nee Propp) Graf. She was raised in the Rhein district and attended Clyde School near Rhein. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein. After completing her education, Anne left home in 1939 with her Uncle Alex and Aunt Anne Liebrecht and went to live in Vancouver, BC. Anne worked during the day and went to school in the evenings. She graduated from Business College and obtained employment with B.C. Telephones. This would become her life-time vocation. During her employment at B.C. Telephones she met the love of her life, Art Thorne. They were married on September 6, 1969. They had no children. They bought an acreage in Surrey, BC  Sadly, they were married for only four short years, when Art passed away suddenly on August 11, 1973. Anne remained with B.C. Telephones for forty years and until her retirement in 1985. She remained in Surrey until 1997, when she moved to Yorkton to help care for her sister and be closer to home and family. Anne loved gardening. She took great pride in her beautiful flower beds, both in BC and again when she moved to Yorkton. Anne also had a passion for cooking. In her younger years, she took many gourmet cooking classes and was an excellent cook. She loved to host special meals for her friends and family. Anne would insist on putting on the holiday dinners for all of the family and will be remembered for the delicious baked ham she would always include in all of the family gatherings. Anne loved to learn and try new things. When she was in her eighties, she joined a quilting club to learn the art of quilting. She loved to read and always kept up with current events, especially politics.
