A charity Celebrity Weekend hosted by the Lions of Saskatchewan – a branch of the volunteer club Lions, which is known for its work throughout not only the community, but also globally – is set to take place in Yorkton from June 12-13 with the hope of raising money for the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation with the focus on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, or HCM, is a primary disease of the muscle of the heart (myocardium) in which a part or all of the muscle becomes thicker than normal, which in turn causes the heart to work harder leading to an increased chance of heart attacks and death.

Several former and possibly current CFL players, such as former Montreal Alouette and Edmonton Eskimo kicker Damon Duval and former CFL journeyman Fred Perry (Toronto Argonauts, Edmonton Eskimos, Ottawa Renegades, Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers) will be in attendance at the event and will take part in several different activities throughout the weekend including the ‘Shoot from the Heart’ celebrity basketball game (Friday, June 12, 2:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart), the celebrity golf tournament (9:00 a.m. at Deer Park Golf Course, Saturday, June 13) and a youth football camp (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Sacred Heart).

In addition, the Grey Cup will be in Yorkton all day Friday and will make appearances at the celebrity public meet and greet (9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.), Shoot from the Heart basketball game and the fundraising steak night (5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Pockets Billiards and Sports Lounge).

Photos with the Grey Cup are $10.00 each with all money raised going to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Other events to take place throughout the weekend will be an invitation only luncheon at Mr. Mikes at noon on Friday, a cheerleading clinic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. held by CFL cheerleaders on Saturday and a weekend wrap up banquet Saturday night starting with cocktails at 5:00 p.m. followed by supper at 6:00 p.m. at the Painted Hand Casino.
