Following exhibition games last weekend, the Sacred Heart Boys soccer team opened up their tournament schedule with a tournament in Weyburn

Following last season, six of Sacred Hearts starters did not return and the teams has some big shoes to fill. The departure of so many Grade 12’s always creates a challenge but the young Saints proved ready for this challenge.

Missing five starters on Friday because of volleyball and football, the Saints defeated Notre Dame 5 -1 but went down to defeat at the hands of Moose Jaw Central 1-0. Scoring for the Saints was Nick Fetsch with two goals, Louis Shin, Caleb Hove and Petro Zotov.

Saturday saw the return of three of the missing players to the roster and the Saints came away with two victories and the tournament championship.

They defeated Se Se Wa Hum (last year’s 2A provincial silver medalist) 2 - 1 in a tightly contested match. Nick Fetsch and Dami Ogunbiyi scored for the Saints.

In the Final Game vs Weyburn, Sacred Heart found their scoring touch and defeated the Eagles 6 - 0. Tami Ogunbiyi recorded the shutout. Nick Fetsch, and Louis Shin each had two goals and Caleb Hove and Dawson Malinowski added singles.

The Saints next action will be when they host their home tournament at the Parkland Mall this Friday and Saturday. Play begins 2 pm when the Saints host Regina Winston Knoll and concludes Saturday at 4 pm.
