Skate Yorkton brings home 2 gold medals

From Nov. 10 – 13, the 2017 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Sectionals were held in Humboldt. Seven athletes from Skate Yorkton attended the event. The Yorkton skaters saw a lot of success at the event, including two provincial titles.

From Nov. 10 – 13, the 2017 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Sectionals were held in Humboldt. Seven athletes from Skate Yorkton attended the event.

The Yorkton skaters saw a lot of success at the event, including two provincial titles. In the Junior Ladies division, 16-year-old Nicki Nagy was the 2017 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Junior Champion, and also the Summer Series Champion. This was Nagy’s sixth provincial title. She has now qualified for the 2017 Skate Canada Challenge from Nov. 30 – Dec. 4 in Quebec. Nagy is a member of the Skate Canada Saskatchewan High Performance Team.

In the Pre-Juvenile Ladies (U11) division, ten year old Madison Bowtell took home the provincial title as the 2017 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Pre-Juvenile Champion, and the Summer Series Champion in the Pre-Juvenile U11 category. Bowtell is a member of the Skate Saskatchewan Development Team. She skated to a personal best score of her season at the event.

Other notable finishes were Yuka Burrell, who received third in the Summer Series Pre-Juvenile U11 and fourth in the Sectional Championships Pre-Juvenile U11 ladies. Marisa Smith took fifth place in the Sectional Championships Pre-Juvenile U11 ladies division. Maysen Zawada received seventh place in the Section Championships Pre-Juvenile U11 ladies division.

In the Pre-Novice Ladies division, Sydney Kotzer placed third in the Summer Series and fifth in the Sectional Championships. She had her two personal best skates and posted a new personal best score.

In the Juvenile Ladies U12 division, ten year old Drew Martinook took third place in the Summer Series, and fourth place in the Sectional Championships.

All athletes train full time with Skate Yorkton, and are coached by Susan Nagy.
