Yorkton football represented in Florida

Yorkton was well represented on various Team Canada Selects football teams, who competed in Florida during winter break. Players tried out for the teams back in November.

Players tried out for the teams back in November. If selected, players were required to practice on weekends in Moose Jaw at the YaraCentre in preparation to play USA All Star Teams and the Florida All Star Teams. The tournament took place in Fort Lauderdale.

Jake Farrell and Hayden Russell made the U11 team.  In Florida their team went 1-2.  

Jake Farrell played quarterback for Team Canada. He connected on a few long passes with his receivers, and he scored the gaming winning touchdown in the team’s only win of the tournament.

Hayden Russell was a beast on the line, registering three quarterback sacks, two tackles for a loss and was in on many tackles for the defense.  

Jaxon Boyda played defensive back for the U13 team.  His team went 0-2 during the tournament.  Jaxon contributed during the two games with five tackles and three assists.

Brad Hesin played defensive line for the U14 team. This team went 1-1-1 during the tournament.  Brad had three quarterback sacks, two tackles for a loss and four assist tackles.    

Coach Jason Boyda, who is a familiar face on the football field with Yorkton Minor Football and Yorkton Regional High School football, was Team Canada’s head coach and offensive coordinator for U14.  

The U14 team went 1-1-1 during the tournament.  In the Friday Night Lights game, his team won 37-6. In the second game, they lost 24-0. In the last and most exciting game of the entire tournament on Sunday night, played to a 20-20 tie.
