On Sunday, Sept. 18 approximately 200 motocross riders from around Saskatchewan gathered for a day of racing at the Millstone Raceway in Yorkton. Riders as young as four took part in the race. Rick Bradshaw from Schrader’s Honda Yamaha Suzuki in Yorkton was an event organizer. He said it ended up being a good day, until the torrential rain and lightning forced them to end it early. They managed to get through three-quarters of the scheduled races. Bradshaw explained that every division is scheduled to race twice, and the final score is calculated from both races. Those who didn’t get to race a second time because of the weather were ranked based on their first run. “It was one of the safest races we’ve ever ran,” he said. “The ambulances didn’t move, and there were no reported injuries. That’s not very normal.” Bradshaw said the amount of racers was as expected. “The attendance of riders was on par for this year. It’s no doubt down from previous years,” he said. He said one reason for this is because of farming schedules, and the amount of racers who are involved with crops. But, Bradshaw said those who did race seemed to enjoy it, and the course was in excellent shape for racing.
