Environment Canada is warning of the possibility of a snowfall in 10 to 15 cm range starting in the night May 20 and going until the afternoon of May 21.

EAST CENTRAL — Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the East Central region, including Humboldt, Tisdale, Melfort and Nipawin.

In an alert issued at 3:36 p.m. on May 20, the weather service said they expect heavy snow and risk of freezing rain in the night and going into the afternoon on Friday, May 21.

“A low pressure system over Montana will spread heavy snow and freezing rain to portions of Saskatchewan beginning Thursday night. Snowfall accumulations will be in the 10 to 15 cm range by time the snow begins to taper off Friday afternoon,” Environment Canada said.

“Along with the heavy snow there will also be freezing rain at times, which can create icy conditions quite quickly. Freezing rain warnings have been issued for regions south of the snowfall warnings. Freezing rain will taper off Friday afternoon.”

People are being warned to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
