Yorkton Council updated a 2008 Bylaw detailing the regulations to appoint the Yorkton Housing Corporation Board.

Terrence Schneider, Director of Legislation and Procedures with the City told the regular meeting of Council Monday that in a meeting with Donna Evans Manager of the Housing Corporation that the existing Bylaw “was not in sync with how the Yorkton Housing Corporation Board was actually functioning.”

“Further, it was understood that the Yorkton Housing Corporation is a “controlled corporation” and operates as an entity of its own and is not by definition a “Council Committee.” Therefore the Yorkton Housing Corporation Board is not subject to the City of Yorkton’s Procedure Bylaw,” offered Schneider.

The Yorkton Housing Corporation Board meeting proceedings and actions are governed by the Bylaw set by Council to appoint the Board.

The amended Bylaw which was given all three readings without discussion, “more accurately represent how the Yorkton Housing Corporation is conducting its business,” said Schneider.
