A new automotive maintenance business proposed for the city is a step closer to reality, following unanimous support from Yorkton Council Monday in approving a discretionary use for the business.

The City had received a Development Permit application for an Automotive Maintenance use at 62 Argyle Street. The new business will provide automotive repair services (exhaust work, suspension, brake, wheel alignments, oil changes, etc.).

Following the July 13 meeting Council authorized Administration to proceed with the Public Notice process. As such, the proposed discretionary use was advertised and circulated in accordance with the public notification requirements of the City of Yorkton, including advertisement in the local newspaper, at City Hall and on the City website.

In addition, pursuant to The Planning and Development Act, 2007, a direct mail-out was sent to 14 property owners within 75 metres of the subject property.

“As of the date of this report, one email was received and presented during the Public Hearing in which the individual indicated support for the proposed use. Additional individuals wishing to speak to the proposed Discretionary Use also will have had the opportunity to present to Council during the Public Hearing,” said Carleen Koroluk, Planner with the City.

In addition the application was referred to the Planning and Infrastructure Commission at their July 22, 2020 meeting. The Commission reviewed the proposal and subsequently carried a resolution recommending approval of the application noting that in addition to a new business coming to the City, exterior upgrades as proposed are a definite benefit to the community.
