This year, a Togo resident felt compelled to raise funds for Telemiracle 44.

Edward Irvine decided to participate in Telemiracle 44 Bowling, an event that took place on February 9 in Yorkton at the Yorkton Bowl Arena.

Lanes were supplied free of charge for participants, and open to anyone wishing to participate. Irvine was involved through ABI (acquired Brain Injury) Sask., having been associated with the organization for a number of years.

In 2006 he was severely injured in a motor vehicle accident which left him with a permanent brain injury, and he has required ongoing rehabilitative therapy. Because of his injury, over the years he had donated to the Saskatchewan Kinsmen and Kinette Telemiracle fundraising effort, but this year he decided to give his best effort at making a larger contribution.

With no particular goal in mind except for his determination to make a meaningful contribution, Irvine began collecting pledges to participate in the bowling event.

Community members rallied behind the cause and Irvine was thrilled to donate $1,383 to Telemiracle 44.

The requirement was for Irvine and his team, which included: Cheryl Konowalchuk, mother; Blanche Irvine, grandmother and Linda Konowalchuk sister to complete one hour of bowling during the event.

Irvine was elated with the amount raised, and wishes to acknowledge everyone who supported his fundraising effort.

“It felt good to make this contribution amount to Telemiracle 44,” he said. “For my first fundraising effort, I feel it was a very positive experience. I would do it again.”

Irvine’s mother Cheryl was very pleased with her son’s successful efforts for Telemiracle 44, and was “pleasantly surprised” with the amount of pledges he secured. “His family, friends and the community were behind Edward and we are all very happy with the outcome.”

The funds were presented by Irvine to the Kinsmen on February 9, at the event in Yorkton, and will become part of the overall total raised when Telemiracle 44 takes place in Regina on March 7 and 8 at the Conexus Arts Centre.

Irvine and his family are unlikely to attend the event in person, but they will be tuning in to watch on TV.
