The COVID-19 pandemic has yet to derail the City of Estevan’s plans to host the 2022 Centennial Cup national junior A championship.

Hockey Canada has provided an update to its national tournament schedule and the status quo remains in regards to the 2022 Centennial Cup.

COVID-19 forced Hockey Canada to cancel all games and events for the remainder of the 2020 season in March, including the Centennial Cup championship tournament in Portage la Prairie, Man. that was to be played in May.

In a statement on June 1st by the CJHL, Hockey Canada has announced that the 2021 Centennial Cup is still scheduled to be hosted by Penticton, B.C., and the 2022 tournament would be in Estevan.

Also, there is a chance the 2023 tournament could be in Portage.

While no schedule or plans for hockey to resume in Canada for the 2020-21 season have been determined at this time, the Bruins say the news is reassuring for the club and Centennial Cup planning committee to continue with preparing to host the tournament in 2022 until further announcements are made by Hockey Canada.
