CALDER - Local Fall Supper attracts good turn out

The Calder Annual Fall supper was a great turn out. The Calder rec Board would like to thank all the wonderful workers that turned out to help with this event. And to all the wonderful people who came out to enjoy the wonderful meal that was prepared. We hope to see you all next year again.

The Calder Yalenka dance Club has started up once again. The club has a few new dancers this year, which is good. The club dances on Friday nights at the Calder Community Hall starting at six o'clock. It is nice to see so many young children coming out to try Ukrainian dancing. It is so nice that some adults are trying out for the adult class. Hope everyone enjoys themselves and to have fun.

The Calder Trade Show will be held on Nov. 16, 2013, at the Calder Community Hall starting at ten. The Calder Playschool will be holding their French toast and sausage breakfast at the Calder Community Hall this year and their bake sale too. The Calder Playschool Breakfast will start at nine o'clock at the hall. Hope everyone comes out to enjoy the Calder Trade Show, it was a great turn out last year. So everyone is welcome to attend this amazing event.

The Calder Seniors have been busy. Here are the winners of the last Whist Drive that was held at the Good Neighbour Centre: Donna Fustey, Peter Wereschuk, Elmer Eftoda, low went to Gordon Kahut. The Pot of Gold winners were Mildred Danylko and Margie Mankish.

Doug Mckenzie had his son Justin Mckenzie, and Doug's daughter and son in law and their wonderful children out visiting in Calder for a while.

Calder Students from grade three to eight attended the Annual Grain Millers Harvest Showdown. Students saw and learned about sheep, quarter horses, chickens, dairy cows and pigs. They played an agricultural learning game sponsored by Sask Power. They also enjoyed cheering for their favorite knight at the knight of Valour Tournament. But all in all the students enjoy their time at the Harvest Showdown.

Congratulations to Lane Baumung on receiving The Good Spirit School Division Student of Distinction Award. This award was presented by our School Superintendent, Susan Maserek, during Education Week. Also attending this special event ws our SCC Board Representative, Florence Stachura.

Mrs. Sharon Sobkow was presented with the Sea Stars High Level of Achievement, making a Difference Employee recognition awatd at the Good Spirit Divisions Staff Appreciation Banquet. Congratulations Sharon, from your family and the community of Calder and surrounding area.

The Calder School held their Halloween Party on Oct. 31, 2013. In the afternoon the students changed into their costumes, and enjoyed dancing, talking with their friends and the parents supplied the food for the students.

Randy Balabuk donated large, medium and small pumpkins to the Calder School for the students to carve. The Calder School Students and staff would like to thank you for the pumpkins.

The Calder School will be having the Hot Lunch and Milk Program again this year. The students will enjoy some good meals supplied by the Calder School.

Calder Students in Kindergarten to Grade Four will be taking in the Western Development Museum Christmas Past. The students will have an old fashioned hay ride, do a scavenger hunt and make a craft.

We would like to start up a Zumba Class in Calder. We need to know how many people would like to take the class. If you would like to attend these classes phone Joanne at 306-742-2024. We have to have numbers so we know if it is a go or not.

The Calder Seniors held their Invitational Whist Drive. The following are the winners of the whist drive: 1st Anne Mostoway, 2nd Gordon Kahut, 3rd Jack Miller, 4th Magaret Antony, Low Jean Orth of Langenburg. Pot of Gold winners were Marlene Miller and Jack Miller. Marie Rohantensky won the Door Prize. Winners of the other raffle were as followed: Edna Olm of Churchbridge, Gladys Tkachuk of Yorkton, Marlene Balabuk of Calder, Bertha Putland of Churchbridge, Marlene Miller of Zorra, Ann Mostoway of Calder, Marie Rohantensky of Calder and Jack Miller of Zorra.
